Creative Strategy and Design Operations for Meta’s Research SuperCluster annoucement— an AI supercomputer with nearly 5 exaflops of computing power.



The Problem

Establish Meta as the premier organization to build the future of computing and bring awareness of their commitment to research at scale. 



The Insight

It would take 31,688,765,000 years of performing one calculation per second to match the computational power of a one-exaflop computer system in just a single second (source).

The Strategy

Develop an interactive explainer outlining the projects facilitated by Meta's Research SuperCluster (RSC) and demonstrate how RSC has propelled research advancements across a wide array of research domains.





The Creative Idea

From computational mathematics and machine translation to stability and privacy, technology communications explores the computational force that drives RSC – and the methodical decisions around building it.

Pulling back the curtain, Meta shows how the Research SuperCluster powers research projects of unprecedented scale. One of those projects is the No Language Left Behind model, which translates across 200 languages, and includes many languages that are underrepresented in previous models.

The Work

For this tentpole announcement, technology communications aligned with the engineering and infrastructure team initiatives to create a virtual webcast event – Meta AI Infra @Scale. This blog post was one of four outlining Meta’s latest investments in AI infrastructure. 

Technology Communications developed original content rooted in research conducted by Meta's engineering and infrastructure teams. By utilizing narrative infographics and documentary-style videos, the narrative was approachable yet precise, and effectively informed tech enthusiasts and media about how the RSC will significantly enhance research efficiency and service Meta's users at scale.



The Results

Overall, Meta AI Infra @Scale garnered 30,000 page views in the first 24 hours — a 43% increase over benchmark. Of those views, 4,100 were for the RSC blog post, and had an average engagement time of 2:56. The Research SuperCluster attracted international attention in technology media, with 74% of coverage including at least one to three of the key messages.
